Finding Incontinence Wear which suits us
Many people are reticent to talk about incontinence. Finding the best kind of protection is a big concern. Brand names are often used instead of generic names; even generic names are not always precisely used with the same meaning. I am often left confused about what kind of incontinence wear is bei...

A short stay in hospital - but not short enough
Around 10.30am on Thursday 7th July I passed out for 2 minutes soon after my morning carers had put me in my wheelchair. They phoned for an ambulance which arrived promptly. I arrived at the hospital at 12 noon. The ambulance crew stayed with me in the ambulance in the car park until I was admitted ...

Living with a Suprapubic Catheter
In January 2013 an accident left me with spinal injury at the base of my neck, paralysis below that site, severe spasticity and double incontinence. My urethra and anus are permanently closed except when opened by manual intervention. I was in a spinal injuries hospital until the end of July. A supr...

Serenity Prayer
The Serenity Prayer of Reinhold Niebuhr* was used from about 1934 (Serenity Prayer - God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot (beliefnet.com). Although written in the style of a prayer, I do not think it's relevance is confined to believers. The first few lines in particular, can, wit...

Re: Spinal Injury Care in the Community
Often I too become frustrated by my disabilities and how difficult it is for me to do simple things. Very best wishes, Barry.

Spinal Injury Care in the Community
An accident in January 2013 left me with my neck broken at C4/5, spinal injury, paralysis below the chest, severe spasticity and double incontinence. NURSES AND CARERS I have visits from my GP as required and district nurses on alternate days, primarily for bowel evacuations. I also have visits from...

Seven Months in a Spinal Injuries Hospital
AN INITIAL TASTE OF HOSPITAL ADMINISTRATION In 2013 an accident left me with spinal injury at C4/5, paralysis, severe spasticity and double incontinence. Immediately after my accident I was taken to a large hospital nearby and was in intensive care for four days. On the second day, without being ask...

Re: Dealing with Incontinence
I try not to worry about things I can not change. My condition is such that nurses and carers are required to do many potentially embarrassing procedures for me but they chose the job and I can't help being as I am.

Dealing with Incontinence
INCONTINENCE WEAR IN HOSPITAL In 2013 an accident left me with spinal injury at C4/5, paralysis, severe spasticity and double incontinence. I have a suprapubic catheter and district nurses give me bowel evacuations on alternate days. I spent the first 7 months in a spinal injury hospital here in the...

Am I expecting too much?
An accident in January 2013 left me with my neck broken at C4/5, spinal injury, paralysis below the chest, severe spasticity and double incontinence. After 4 days in a local hospital, I was taken to a specialist spinal injury hospital 70 miles from where I live. Remarkably little was achieved for su...

Re: Pressure Sores and Clarithromycin
In January 2020, my skin rashes returned, but not my pressure sores. In August I had been ignored by and so had no Clarithromycin for the first 10 days. In January I already had some Clarithromycin and started taking it straight away. It appear to me that the nurses I had in early August were respon...

Sexual Activity and Disability
I find that even limited sexual activity goes with a sense of well-being. I wonder why is there so little discussion on it among the disabled? Because there is little interest? Because many people are embarrassed to talk about their sexual activities? Because some people find reading about other peo...

Pressure Sores and Clarithromycin
At the beginning of August 2019, I developed much more serious pressure sores than I have ever had before. At the same time I had the most serious skin infection I had had since becoming paralysed in January 2013: the co-incidence of the timing of these raised a strong suspicion that the infection w...

Living with Spasticity following Spinal Injury
This is a personal account of how I have dealt with spasticity following an accident causing spinal injury at C4/5 in January 2013. I have made no attempt to find out how typical or otherwise my case is; so I do not know whether the methods I have tried would work for others with spasticity from spi...

Re: Preventing Urinary Catheter Blockages
ONE YEAR LATER I have still not had a catheter blockage since the night of 23rd/24th July 2016. Neither have I had a serious urinary tract infection. My catheter blockages were being caused by urinary tract infections of Staphylococcus saprophyticus and/or E. coli; these caused the sediment which le...
