Financial abuse is rampant and it leaves the victim feeling powerless, especially if they do not have a trusted person that they can reach out to for help.
I have seen this happen in my community, it is disturbing.
If it has happened to you, have you reached out for help? Did you know where to go, who to speak to or what to do?
DO not feel ashamed, this is what the perpetrator wants so they can maintain control of you and your finances.
Call the police, tell a friend, be brave and stand up someone will stand with you!
Financial Abuse of Elders and the Vulnerable

I, too, have witnessed such abuse, some financial, some emotional, even from the children of some of my loved ones. Sometimes I wonder if I would be so aware if I wasn't also disabled and vulnerable, and can at least partially relate.
I had a relative whose life savings was depleted while she was receiving medical treatment, but not by the cost of the treatment, but by the son with whom she had to live while being treated. She was so ashamed that no one in the extended family knew about it until after she lost her battle with cancer. It scares me because I have a disabled mother who sometimes accepts subpar treatment out of fear of rocking the boat. It has become a mission for me to help her keep her dignity, and convince her to choose better for herself.
