Discovery of New Normal

Post by Joe S. » 1 month ago

Hello All - No details yet, but yes I'm living now 2 years into a disability. Honestly in the big picture of what I have noted on this site my circumstance is minor. However - I'm different and my activities have changed a great deal. And I haven't a clue yet how best to find like minded and like disabled folks to meet and encourage each other.

This site is an excellent source for some of that. But again - being honest - I'm not talking about online/network relationships. How do folks tend to reach out and engage where they live and find new relationships and meaningful ways to do stuff with others.

Sorry to say, BUT support groups tend to bring me down. I don't wish to focus on a "condition" and discuss it. I want to live it through because it is (as we all know) our new normal. Plus what we are all dealing with is unique to us and our place with the disability. So being with others in worse circumstance is a bit weird right now. Again I'm really new to this...and it has taken my frustration to reach out globally on a website to hear some ideas. :)!

Want to laugh? Last night found myself considering Craigslist...seriously!

Craigslist Add: Man with _______ still likes being active and outdoors seeking same level active woman/friend whom wants to live live and do stuff.

But with my luck I'd be found in a rural ditch regretting this decision. Sorry this is bizarre and heavy, BUT I'm at a lost.

Best,

Joe S.

Joe,
welcome to the forum and chatroom.
some support groups are not all about complaining about our conditions. But, about friendship and encouragement. I hope that you'll check some out.
Check in your area. I know here we have a group that gets together to do craft, social pot lucks, game nights, etc. etc.
Best wishes,
-lynn
