Our No-Nonsense Chat Room Rules

If you are a first time visitor, to make your first time experience as enjoyable as possible we ask that you adhere to these simple commonsense rules.  Please read them.  Chat room safety is YOUR responsibility, not ours, so we strongly urge that you also read our Chat Room Safety Guide as soon as possible.   If you're new to our site, we also suggest that you take a look at our Chat Room Etiquette page.

  1. Be nice!  If you have a personal problem with someone, discuss it with that person in private, not in the main room.   Personal attacks or arguments in the main room will not be tolerated.
  2. Do Not Lie!  If you are not disabled, do not say that you are.  Do not lie about the disability you have.  We are friendly and compassionate people but we do not tolerate liars.
  3. No Dating.  We are not a dating site.  If you come to our site looking for a boyfriend, girlfriend, cyber-dating or cyber-sex, you will be banned.  There are plenty of free dating sites and you should go to one of them instead.
  4. No Devotees or Fetishists.  This room is for friendly conversation, not fulfilling anyone's sick fantasies.  If you come in looking for it, you will be banned.  If you do not know what a devotee is, see our Frequently Asked Questions page.
  5. No Children.  You must be 18 years of age or older.  Most of us in the room are in our 30's to 50's and a few in our 80's.  We are not a teen dating site and even though we can be a little silly sometimes, we do try to round it out with real discussions about life and world situations.
  6. No advertising.  This includes the advertising of any other chat rooms.
  7. No criminal activity.  Using our services to promote and/or engage in any illegal activities will be logged and reported to the appropriate city, state or federal government authorities and will result in a ban.
  8. Free Speech. Unlike any other disability chat room, we have always done our best to never control speech or to be politically correct or be thought police.  People are permitted to discuss sex, politics and religion or any other topic so long as they discuss it in a respectful manner.  People who cause trouble will be removed by our moderators.
  9. VPN Users: When using a VPN without prior permission, our security system will automatically block you.  Please disable your VPN until you obtain permission from the administrators.

For your personal safety, do not ask for or give out your last name, address, phone number, email address, passwords or any other personal information to any person in this chat room.

Chat Room Safety Guide

Safety for Everyone: (includes additional reading for parents)

We do our best to maintain a safe environment, but much of that safety must come from your actions, not ours.

We all are eager to make good friends, but slow down.  We are here all the time.  Making real friends takes time so please take a few weeks or months to get to know someone before you give out personal information. Until then:

  • Do not give out your full name or last name. First names only.
  • Do not give anyone your phone number.
  • Do not give anyone your home address.
  • If someone wants to know what city you live in, give them some nearby city name instead.
  • Do not give anyone your email address.
  • Do not give anyone your Facebook, Skype, Yahoo messenger etc information.
  • Do not give anyone your password.
  • Remember, if you give someone your Facebook page, you are giving them every single piece of information they need to find you, stalk you, rob you and potentially harm you and every member of your family.  Do not share your Facebook page with someone you don't know personally.

Sexual predators are very sneaky people.  They seem real nice and will engage you in friendly conversation. Soon they will begin dropping in words and phrases that will steer you into sexual situations and before you know it, you could be in for serious trouble.  Keep in mind the following:

  • You are not obligated to talk to anyone.
  • If someone makes you uncomfortable, stop talking to them.
  • If you believe someone here is a sexual predator, stop talking to them and CONTACT US IMMEDIATELY.

Some warning signs to watch for:

  • People who try to engage you in private chat as soon as you enter the room.
  • People who are overly fixated on highly personal subjects, things you would usually not discuss with a total stranger.  Many times this will be about amputations, incontinence, diapers, catheters and other highly personal subjects.  If they can't seem to get off the subject, consider it a serious warning sign.
  • People who go out of their way to make you feel sorry for them. Do not let people abuse your sympathy.
  • People who suddenly ask you if you have a picture or a webcam or ask for your Facebook, Skype, Yahoo messenger information.  If you give this information to a total stranger, you're a total idiot.

Be safe, not sorry. Use the brains God gave you.

Words of Wisdom for Parents

This section is for parents:

With regard to the Disabilities-R-Us chat room, children are not permitted.  You must be 18 years of age or older to enter.  Most of us in the room are in our 30's to 50's and a few in our 80's.  We are not a teen dating site and even though we can be a little silly sometimes, we do try to round it out with real discussions about life and world situations.

With regard to other chat sites, here are some things you should consider before allowing your child enter any online chatroom:

DANGER: (the following is quite blunt and may offend bad parents)

Children should not be in chat rooms.  Instead, they should be outside playing with friends or doing some other supervised activity that involves fresh air.  Most people in chat rooms are adults and who more than occasionally talk about adult subjects -- things children should learn from parents, not strangers in a chatroom.

If your child is under the age of 18 and you allow them to have unsupervised access to a computer -- like in a child's bedroom or basement -- please consider not having anymore children.

"Why is that?" you ask?

We have seen way too many children give just enough information about themselves to where it took only a matter of seconds to get their home addresses and phone numbers.  The Internet is not as private as you might think.

Also, and to some parents disbelief, over the years we have had the unfortunate opportunities to assist in having over a dozen unwise testosterone filled young adults hauled off in handcuffs by various state and federal law enforcement agencies for committing serious illegal acts online.  The parents lose all their savings to criminal defense lawyers -- and then the fun part happens -- the civil lawsuits begin.

Almost all of the parents of these children lived in denial and believed that their "little angels" were just using the Internet to do homework, talk with buddies, and download cookie recipes.  Not so.  Many computer literate adolescents like to pretend they are "hackers" and end up getting themselves into all sorts of trouble that you as a parent may have never even conceived of.  Again, the Internet is not as private as you might think and some people, when provoked, will retaliate in ways that the child's parent(s) may find physically, emotionally and financially uncomfortable.

It all comes down to this: If you respect your child's privacy online, you're stupid.

Have you ever wondered how this site stays online?

Make a One Time DonationMany people make the false assumption that this site is run by a big company with deep pockets.  Not true.  This site is run by a single person with a lot of volunteer help from distant friends.  Like you, we are also disabled.  Others assume we have big donors who give a ton of money or we have tons of people who donate every month.  This is also not true.  In fact, very few people ever donate.

As a community supported site, we depend on your help to keep the site open.  Your donations help to pay for our administrative, web hosting, chat server hosting, bot hosting and development costs for maintaining our chat software.  If you would like to see the site continue, please consider making a voluntary contribution by using one of the donation button above or be a superhero and choose one of the Monthly Patreon Options.

Chat Room Etiquette

Just like real life, there are things that you should and should not do while in a chat room.  If you are new to Disabilities-R-Us, these etiquette guidelines should get you off to a good start.   Keep in mind that these are not rules, they're just suggestions, the same way people would suggest that you never hug the Queen of England, never chew with your mouth open, and never expect anything good to happen; like all those times when you told your younger sibling to stop looking at you.

In no particular order...

  • Please do not ask if everyone is disabled.  This site is called Disabilities-R-Us for a reason.  Yes, we do welcome non-disabled people but they are very incredibly rare and most times nonexistent.
  • If there is a interesting conversation happening, please don’t get upset if nobody immediately greets you.  We are indeed happy that you came in.  It’s just that the more time we spending greeting the hundreds of people who pop in and out all day, the less likely we are to have interesting conversations.
  • Be patient with us.   If you ask a question, wait a bit for an answer.  Some of us have disabilities that affect how fast we can type.
  • Stay!  Leaving after 10 seconds doesn’t tell you anything about the room or it’s occupants.
  • If you want to know something about someone (or everyone,) please be polite by telling a little bit about yourself first.
  • Please do not publicly ask permission to private message someone.  Ask in private.
  • If the room is quiet, offer a fun or interesting topic to discuss.  Pointing out that is quiet is just pointing out the obvious.
  • Greeting each and every person in the room by name is considered disruptive and annoying.  A simple “hello everyone” will do.
  • Please do not ask if you are interrupting.  It’s a chat room, expect lots of chatting with periodic silence.
  • If you’re looking for someone specific, stay and wait for the person.  If you continually leave and come back for only seconds at a time, not only will you never find the person, you will upset and alienate everyone else.
  • If you promise not to advertise other disabled chat rooms on our site, we promise to not come to your wedding and advertise other potential brides or grooms to your spouse.
  • If you need to use the chatroom's ignore feature, please help maintain the peace by not mentioning that fact to anyone and by not talking to or about the person you are ignoring.
